The nights are getting longer and colder, Christmas shoppers are bustling like ants in the streets finishing the seasonal shop, and the Christmas party is just around the corner and all you can think of is what am I going to wear to catch a certain person’s eye this year? Well never fear, because Christmas trends this season are not only absolutely stunning, but affordable, long lasting and most importantly, there’s a flattering style for everyone.

The main trends this season are bold metallic shades, sequins to out-sparkle the Christmas tree and sumptuous beading to ooze Christmas glamour. There’s really easy ways to incorporate these trends into your every day wardrobes too for a hint of Christmas warmth or you can go all out for nights on the town.
The metallic trend is probably the hardest to pull off but there are some really nice items on the high street for students to indulge in. Primark have a gorgeous straight cut, pleated maxi dress in gold at only £20. This item is not only really versatile but a steal. During the day, why not team it with a woolly jumper, brogues and a long pendant for a chilled out rocker look and for a more glamorous night time look pair it with some killer heels, flicked eye liner and deep red lipstick. H&M have a great metallic jumper in either gold or silver for £15 which look great with leather pants and Chelsea boots and for those of you with a bit more money in your pocket, Ted Baker do an amazing pair of high waisted silver shorts for both dressed up and casual at £99.

To turn heads, sequins are definitely the best option this season. There are loads of sequins all over the high street this year and you can pick up some real bargains. All Saints have a black all over sequinned backless number for £250 for those who want to splash out, but for budgeteers there’s a gorgeous emerald green version from New Look that even Kelly Brook has snapped up for only £39.99. Dresses aren’t the only way to do sequins. Topshop have a cute cropped top with vertical sequinned lines and New Look have a black sparkly skirt that’ll look great with almost anything for only £20.

Beading can be a subtle or be a stand-out-from-the-crowd look this season. It’s entirely up to you. New Look again have some beautiful pieces in light pinks with beading around the neckline but Topshop is the place to go if beads are your thing. The black and gold velvet number with vertical beading looks great with opaque tights and patent heels with a flash of purple lipstick or the mustard cropped embellished top can be worn for loads of different occasions. For something a bit different, charity shops are the best place to look for beaded treasures. Not only will the pieces be one of a kind but they’ll be a fraction of the price too.

Team all your outfits with a dash of fur, or a touch of leather, be it a jacket to keep warm, ear muffs to protects your ears or a stole to just add that extra touch and a different texture. Just remember to sparkle this Christmas and you’ll catch more than one person’s eye!
