Lancaster’s success in subject league tables

The University has experienced success in the league tables with Marketing reaching the number one spot in the UK in the Complete University Guide for 2014.

Lancaster is also is in the top 10 for twelve other subjects. The University is ranked 2nd in the country for Art & Design, 5th in the country for Sociology, 7th for Physics and Astronomy, Dance and Cinematics, Social Policy, Social Work, and Business and Management Studies, 8th for Linguistics, and 10th for Biological Sciences, Geography and Environmental Science, Mathematics, and Communication and Media Studies. Lancaster University is in 11th place on the overall table, dropping from 9th place in the rankings for 2013.

Furthermore, Lancaster University features in the QS World University Rankings elite top 200 institutions in 18 of 30 subjects. The rankings, published on 8th May 2013, rank Lancaster in the top 50 for Linguistics (ranked 10th), Geography (ranked 37th), Sociology (ranked 38th) and Accounting and Finance (ranked 47th). The QS World University Rankings, launched in 2011, offer a comprehensive guide to a range of subject areas, showing the top 200 universities for 30 subjects worldwide. They are regarded as one of the most influential international university rankings, also publishing regional and subject-based rankings. A broad range of university activity is used in their rating system, taking  academic peer review, faculty-student ratio, citations per faculty, recruiter review and international orientation into account in their ratings.

LUSU VP Academic Richard Clark welcomed the rating, commenting: “Staying in reach of the top ten proves how good the quality of teaching and learning is here at Lancaster, cementing it as a ‘top’ university in the UK. The Lancaster experience is clearly not one to miss out on!”
