Throwback to the 1970s: Denim dungarees have returned

Loading

We’re having a huge fashion flashback with the return of the 1970s fashion staple denim dungarees which have been resurrected in multiple styles for the new season. From the likes of Alexa Chung, and Pixie Lott, to the catwalks at London Fashion Week, this childhood staple is making a reappearance in a big way. Classic stonewash denim and cute printed pinafore dresses are a timeless favourites especially in stores such as Asos and Topshop at the moment. Perfect for any season, Fearne Cotton was spotted when she stepped out in a rainy London in this washed out, ripped pair as she headed to work. Cool, wearable and definitely a style staple for spring. Think of the nu-dungaree as the daywear equivalent of the boiler suit. Be aware that with the recent onesie craze, not everyone is a fan. Mail columnist Amanda Platell said dungarees are ‘the most hideous fashion item short of culottes ever to walk the streets’. Whether you’re wearing dungarees or their more feminine cousin, the pinafore, update the look with a tailored blazer to take you all through the day. On the other hand, you can’t go wrong with a classic, full-length style. Add a ¾ sleeve top, cuff the hems and wear with statement heels for a more modern style.
