Banish the dull winter and behold colour, pattern and Mary Katrantzou. Katrantzou first entered my life when she appeared in a copy of Elle magazine as an up-and-coming designer all about patterns, colour and the female figure. Last month, the Greek born twenty-nine year old was the highlight of London Fashion week, with a motto of “you have to be able to do with print what you do with a black dress: flatter a woman’s silhouette”.
Her models wore their hair in simple, fluffy top-knots, and each of her designs were striking yet flattering. Celebrities such a Keira Knightly love Mary’s designs; her main line is stocked in over one-hundred-and-sixty stores, and last month her third collection for Topshop was released at a more affordable price for the Mary Katrantzou lovers out there.
Mary’s A/W 2012 collection displayed prints from previous shows, reworked into daring designs. Free-flowing skirts, silk trousers and a pencil skirt that featured real pencils were just some of the features on the catwalk. Mary’s inspiration, from everyday objects such as baths, spoons and coat hangers come together to form eclectic colour combinations and pieces that will no doubt be inspiring the high street soon.
Catwalk reports comment that her show was brilliantly entertaining and inventive as ever. Her Topshop collections have been snapped up hastily, and her latest Longchamp handbag collection will undoubtedly have the same impact across the fashion world. She is a young inspiration for print lovers everywhere, making it even more exciting and desirable. I am looking forward to Katrantzou inspired prints and styles hitting the high street this summer, flattering all and brightening our wardrobes!
