Lancaster 1 – 3 York
Lancaster fell to defeat in the first volleyball event at Roses as York stormed back from a set down.
The first set was one of the tightest of the weekend but it was edged by the home side, who went on to make a strong start to the second set. York however responded well, fighting back to level the match up at one set apiece. That momentum was carried forward from the latter stages of the second set into the third as a convincing performance saw them take a 1-2 lead in the match.
The white roses continued to dominate in the fourth set, the disappointment of losing the opening set of the match a distant memory in their minds as they won an incredible 11 of the first 12 points at the beginning of the fourth set to seemingly put the match well out of Lancaster’s reach.
Lancaster showed great spirit to fight back from a tough position in the set but ultimately gave themselves too much to do against strong York opposition, who held out to win the match in 4 sets.
