In anticipation of LUTG’s new production, Dealer’s Choice, showing this weekend in the Jack Hylton Room, SCAN caught up with the Producer, Lilly Bryony Menear who gave us a sneak peek of what is to be expected from this dark comedy.
Dealer’s Choice is a dark comedy, leading up to and revolving around a poker game. What happens when you’re playing for more than just the money?

A note from the team working on the show:
Dealer’s Choice has been an incredible process. Our backstage team, lead by Stage Managers Tosca Herson and Jessica McIntosh, have been incredibly on it about how to turn the JHR into first a restaurant, and then a basement fit for weekly poker night, and it’s looking like their work will produce some great results to bring the play to life. The cast and the directing team have been learning how to play poker, as well as how to play a character while playing poker – not the easiest task! Coming from an interest in strong character work and experience bringing the comedy out of a script, director Jacqui Clark is delivering another high standard dark comedy. Of course, as with any play, it really all comes down to the text, and Patrick Marber has provided a script that is so easy to find comedy in, despite its moments of real emotional impact. We hope that when you come to see it you laugh as much as we have along the way.
