Lancaster University have found that voluntary redundancy/severance schemes have produced enough savings that compulsory redundancies among academic staff will not be needed this academic year.
Consequently, the Lancaster UCU strikes planned for next week have been called off and their action short of strike (ASOS) will also end, according to LUSU.
Lancaster University had earlier stated that 212 full-time equivalent redundancies would need to be made among academic staff by 31 July 2026, and that the use of compulsory redundancy to meet this target could not be ruled out. Following a stocktake of staff departures, they have concluded that no compulsory redundancies of academic staff will be needed in the 25/26 academic year.
This is a breaking news story and will be updated as we receive more information. Lancaster University, Lancaster UCU, and LUSU have been approached for comment.
