Week Sixteen will play host to Lancaster University’s annual Raising and Giving (RAG) week.

The RAG Society will be running a whole week of events in order to raise as much money as possible for their three selected charities. These include one local, one national, and one international charity.

Alexandra House has been selected as the local charity. Based in Lancaster, it provides short term breaks to young people with severe learning disabilities, physical disabilities and complex health needs to help give their families a break.

Cancer Research UK is this year’s national charity, and is the world’s leading charity dedicated to cancer research. WaterAid, the chosen international charity, aims to provide clean water, safe sanitation and hygiene education to several of the world’s poorest countries in Africa, Asia, the Pacific region and Central America.

Ben Widdowson, RAG President explained that “RAG is all about helping those who are less fortunate than ourselves, so we want to get everyone involved in helping us change the lives of people, and show them how much fun it can be.”

RAG wristbands will be on sale from Week Fifteen for the small charge of £3 and will get their wearers exclusive offers for several businesses around Lancaster for the whole of Week Sixteen. Offers include discounts at Revolution, Sultans, Starvin Marvin, Squires, Sneaks, JoJo’s Hair, The Cornish Bakery, Jo and Cass Hair & Beauty and many more.

Events during the week include a fashion show in the Great Hall on Tuesday 21st, a bake sale at the Farmer’s Market on Thursday 23rd, and a quiz in each college on Sunday 26th.

RAG members will also be collecting donations at the Sugarhouse and Carleton on Wednesday 22nd and will also be hosting a ‘tuckshop’ in Sugarhouse on the Friday and Saturday of Week Sixteen.

RAG Vice President, Rebecca Hewitt commented that “RAG Week is our big push to get everyone involved, having fun and supporting three great causes; because every little donation goes a long way into helping change people’s lives.”
