Event: Campus in the City 2

Loading

Campus in the City 2 is a FASS Enterprise Centre project which aims to encourage and assist academics and students to be innovative and enterprising in how they carry out research and how they use that research to create impact. This is the second year. The program lasts for 11 weeks, from 14th February 2015 to 25th April 2015. Over 30 events are designed to help achieve the University’s goal of actively communicating with local businesses and communities; the majority of the event involved collaborations with external groups and organisations, such as Lancaster Unlimited, Lancaster City Council, and Lancaster and Morecambe College.

Within that, the enterprise week (30th March to the 4th April) provides a great opportunity for Lancaster University students who have entrepreneurial ambitions, small businesses and start ups to showcase their business achievements. Lancaster Unlimited and the Chamber of Commerce will join the event and provide support to students. There are three main sessions in this event. Family Business session (1st April, Wednesday), Fass Postgraduate Enterprise Session (2nd April, Thursday), and Business Ideas Generation Session ( 4th April, Saturday). In these sessions, students will have chance to talk with successful managers and businessmen and discuss their business ideas with them.

The Family Businesses session is held by the Centre for Family Business, part of Lancaster University Management School. This session aims to put family business at the forefront of management thinking. The sessions last for the whole day, from 10am to 4pm. The postgraduate enterprise session will focus on the student who have a Masters or PHD degree. It is an two-hour-session (2pm to 4pm), which will give a clear idea for students how to start their own business or consultancy. Students are welcome to come to the Business Ideas Generation session if they are ambitious but don’t have a clear idea so far. This session will help students learn how to generate business ideas with 15 minutes and make sure they’re viable.

More great enterprise opportunities will be offered throughout Enterprise Week. If you are interested in finding more opportunities, further details are available on http://campusinthecity.com/ and via the Facebook: ‘Campus in The City’. If you have any ideas on the event, please mail enterpriseteam@lancaster.ac.uk.
