Eight students have been sanctioned by the University for breach of Student Discipline Regulations, with penalties including suspended permanent exclusion, suspension from the University for a 12 month period, and fines ranging between £200 to £500.
The students appeared in front of a panel made of up of three members of staff, and two students. The penalties levelled included the two most severe that the University has at its disposal, although they were varied depending on the panel’s decision on the culpability of each individual student.
No students have yet been permanently excluded from the University. However some of the eight will face suspended permanent exclusion for the duration of their time at Lancaster, depending on their future adherence to discipline regulations and attendance at training sessions ranging from bystander intervention to a restorative justice session.
This is in addition to the sanctions previously levied by the Lancaster University Student’s Union on the Snow Sports Society, which included group probation and training schemes.
The news was announced in a virtual press release today. Lancaster University said:
“The Panel’s view that the actions (and, in some cases, the inaction) of students in this case merit such penalties emphasise the University’s lack of tolerance for such behaviours. It also makes clear that all members of the University have a role to play in maintaining and upholding the inclusive and tolerant values of our community.”
