An interactive ‘Student Media Online Murder Mystery’ project will be running across campus during Weeks 28 and 29 this term.
The event has been organised by the three prominent media initiatives at Lancaster: LA1:TV, SCAN and Bailrigg FM.
Will McDonagh, former station manager at LA1:TV and producer of the event, explained that the two-week plot “surrounds a fictional LUSU President, Leo Lancaster, who is found dead in the LUSU Bunker at the beginning of Week 19.”
Over the following two weeks, nine suspects will be revealed carrying with them their own individual motives for the murder, along with “incriminating evidence against them” McDonagh revealed. These suspects will also have their own Facebook profiles.
Some of these characters will gradually be “taken out of the frame” while others will begin to look more and more accountable. Half-way through the event, the murderer is due to strike again.
McDonagh added that “by the end of the two weeks, there are roughly four or five characters who could have killed Leo.”
The event is completely free to sign-up to, and you do not have to be part of the Student Media in Lancaster in order to take part. Clues will be revealed over the two weeks via Facebook, in various different forms brought to you by Bailrigg FM, SCAN and LA1:TV.
It will then be up to the student body to make the final decision as to who the murderer is, by casting their votes in a ballot box located in LUSU. Voting will close at noon on Friday of Week 29 and all those who have guessed correctly will automatically be put into a prize draw. The first place prize will be £100 with several other prizes being awarded to the runners-up.
