A Lancaster University environmental biology student yesterday shared photos of herself with cuts on her face and knees and a chipped tooth on the Facebook group “Overheard at Lancaster”, after a night out in the Sugarhouse on Friday Week 10. The student was appealing to others on the group for information as to what happened.
On the group, she wrote: “Please, I know a group of girls really helped me, please come forward if you saw anything. I’ve lost my phone, and costume for the night between Sugar and hospital I can’t remember much I’ve been sent home with a head injury but not very drunk.”
One student came forward, claiming to have witnessed the incident, in which he described that the student was “assaulted” by a bouncer from FGH, the security company employed by the Sugarhouse. However, as of yet, exact details of the incident are yet to be confirmed.
Sources in LUSU have told SCAN that the Union is aware of the incident and the posts on “Overheard at Lancaster”. They confirmed that an incident did take place on the night of Friday Week 10 (or early morning on Saturday Week 10) but said that the evidence currently available does not correlate with the claims made on “Overheard at Lancaster”.
LUSU told SCAN that “student safety is paramount and all Sugarhouse and FGH staff undergo strict training to ensure that this is maintained and that proper procedures are followed.”
SCAN will report further as more information becomes available.
