Men’s Hockey 3rds
After an early mistake in the Lancaster defence, York were gifted an early goal against the run of play. Lancaster’s captain Nigel Hockin was playing well in midfield, but could do nothing to stop York’s second goal. Lancaster struck back immediately, with almost 10 minutes of relentless pressure on York, and a goal.
A penalty flick gave Lancaster an equaliser, but York put the pressure back on before the break, getting Lancaster’s captain sent off and forcing the defence to clear off the line.
At the start of the second half York scored a quickfire goal giving them the lead, and after that both teams created some good chances, with Lancaster scoring again with fifteen minutes to go. It was the start of a long period of pressure for the home team, winning several short corners, and firing shots just wide of the goal.
When York broke out of their half Alex Hockin in defence blocked well and cleared the ball. With two minutes to go it looked like the points would be shared, but as Lancaster supporters urged their team on, Lancaster talisman Raj K fired a shot high into the net to give Lancaster an excellent win 4 goals to 3.
This was a great show of the famous Third Team Pride.
I’d like to point out, that not only did the home team pull it back twice, they scored the winning goal whilst a man down, with the captain’s determind defence gained him another sin bin
