Men’s Hockey 2nds
York started well, putting pressure on and forcing Lancaster to defend. Play was mainly in midfield, with the teams swapping possession and neither able to build up a strong attack.
The tough tackles flew in as tensions began to rise, resulting in a yellow card and 10 minutes in the sin-bin for Lancaster’s number 16. After 25 minutes finally York managed to break through and win a short corner, but the Lancaster keeper made a good save to keep the home team in the match. At half time there was nothing to separate the teams.
In the second half Lancaster started well, winning a short corner, but nothing came of the chance. York broke immediately, forcing Lancaster to concede a corner of their own, and York’s number 3 scored to give them the lead. Play was once again cagey in the middle of the pitch, but Lancaster had a good spell of pressure, winning two corners but firing both wide. Both sides were on the attack but neither could score and York survived to win the match.
