Lancaster 4 – 1 York
An impressive performance from Lancaster’s ‘wolf pack’ saw them stretch an unbeaten run in this fixture to 5 matches with a comprehensive victory.
With four points at stake the match begun with a naturally cagey start, though the game opened up when York took the lead midway through the first half to kickstart a flurry of activity. After going behind Lancaster came out of the shell and bossed the game from that moment on, making an almost instant response to level the scores at one apiece.
Lancaster continued to press from the restart and minutes later they seized the opportunity to take the lead, Ruby Peters deflecting the ball in following a short corner. They doubled their lead soon after to get themselves into a commanding position before half-time, from which point the result of a Lancaster win never looked in any doubt.
Having turned the game around in the latter stages of the first half Lancaster carried all the momentum and subsequently dominated the second half. With the game mainly played in York’s half Lancaster enjoyed long spells of pressure on the York goal and the pressure was finally made to tell with another goal from Lydia “Percy” Potter after another short corner ten minutes from time. The three goal cushion tightened Lancaster’s grip on the match, enabling them to comfortably see out the final moments to round off an immense performance.
