Lancaster 46-0 Manchester
The Lancaster Lynx Rugby League team have extended their unbeaten streak to an impressive four victories in a row, with a convincing performance over the University of Manchester seconds in a top of the table clash.
A hatrick of tries from Danny Myers and tries from Neil Kilgallon, Jordan Shard-New, Adam King, Josh Oates, Matthew Buckland and Mike Gibson, saw Lynx cruise to a 46-0 victory against an uninspiring Manchester outfit.
The match began with a bang, when a fantastic break by Gareth Houghton found its way to Neil Killgallon who crossed over to open the scoring in the fifth minute of play.
Danny Myers added to the score four minutes later when his dummy pass deceived the Manchester defence and opened up a gap for him to slip through. A similar move opened up the defence for Myers’s second in the 14th minute. This time goal kicker Ben Robertshaw found himself unable to add the conversion despite kicking the previous two.
Injuries to Vice Captain Gareth Houghton and try scorer Neil Kilgallon looked to spark woe for the home side, yet Lynx continued their overwhelming advantage in attack with two further tries from Jordan Shard-New and Adam King to bring the score to 26-0 at the break.
Lynx kept up the try fest in the second half with little response from Manchester. A wide pass from scrum half Paul Davies worked its way to Matthew Buckland who touched down for the try. Danny Myers was awarded with his hatrick in the 50th minute when the combination of a dummy, quick feet and good pace allowed him to sneak through the Manchester line.
Tries from Mike Gibson and Josh Oates rounded of the scoring for the Lynx, yet Manchester were not dead and buried just yet. Some desperate defence was needed towards the end of the game with the away side edging ever closer to the Lynx try line. Fortunately for Lynx, the resulting kick on the last tackle went out of play to hand Lynx the victory and to ensure Manchester’s efforts remained pointless.
Notable performances must go to Adam Lacey and Mike Gibson. Some fantastic tackles by Gibson ensured Manchester never looked like scoring whilst Lacey’s near unstoppable breaks looked to spark panic and fear in the eyes of the Manchester tacklers.
Lynx captain Max Brown had this to say following the game; “On the whole I am very pleased with every one of the players and we put in a complete performance in all aspects of our game. What had lacked in other games was resolved. The three games prior to this showed signs of improvement and we built on these performances each week, but today was the icing on the cake and I’m proud of every single one of the lads.”
Next week, the Lynx face Edgehill seconds at home. In their last encounter, the Lynx scored a 64-8 victory and so will be expecting nothing less than a convincing victory. With four games remaining and the Lynx having beaten every team in their league, they must only feel that the title is now theirs to lose.
