As the New Year begins we look at our lifestyles with the aim of revamping and de-cluttering them. But it’s not only our lifestyles that need re-evaluating once in a while, our wardrobe do too. After considering my own faults though, I realized there was more than a couple of things I needed to change…
Stop Boredom Shopping
My favorite form of procrastination is online shopping. It is so easy, so immediate, but most dangerously, it is so endless. Without noticing, half an hour can pass and all I have achieved is the purchase of yet another pair of black boots. Besides preventing me from completing actual work, boredom shopping results in purposeless purchases that ordinarily don’t require a second glance but somehow find their way into your shopping basket; again and again.
Wardrobe Diet
Linked perhaps to my previous resolution, my wardrobe is bulging at the hinges; in fact, the door has come off my wardrobe. This year I promise myself I will ruthlessly remove and rid myself of any item of clothing that I haven’t worn in the last year. If this sounds familiar, a great way to go about shedding a few pounds (of clothes that is) is to adopt a ‘one in one out’ policy. For every new item you buy, bin an old one!
Step Away From The Black!
If you know me, you’ll already know that the majority of my wardrobe is black. It’s easy and effortless and goes well with my collection of white shirts and blouses. Simply put, my wardrobe is almost entirely monochrome. As difficult as New Year resolutions get, this might be my hardest to break. This year, I promise I will venture out of my comfort zone, starting perhaps with a new summer jacket…
Experimentation
Just as I wear the same two colours repeatedly, I also wear the same 20% of my wardrobe, always with the thought that I must save that top or that dress for a special occasion. However, there never is a special occasion I’m waiting for and I can’t spend my life waiting for one. This year every time I stop myself wearing something with that intention, I’m going to challenge the notion and do the exact opposite, wearing that outfit just whenever I like.
Fake It Till You Make It!
2014 was the year contouring amazed us all and 2015 is going to be the year I master it. I might not have much in the sense of defined cheekbones right now, but with a little magic and a hell of a lot of make-up I hope one day soon I can uncover them.
