Student societies continue to expand

Lancaster University’s Student Union now has an additional society to add to its collection of over 175 diverse and engaging student societies.

With the executive newly formed and primed for action, the French Society is ready to welcome all those with an interest in the language and culture of our neighbours across the channel – native speakers or not.

There will be a range of socials on offer, with film nights and themed bar-crawls just two ideas on the horizon.

Harriet Webster, Publicity Officer for the society, explained that the society hopes students of French will also benefit from a chance to practise their language skills through interaction with native speakers and learners.

Vice President (Activities), Marc Handley, feels that the newly-established French Society demonstrates the ability of students to involve themselves with the particular extra-curricular activities that they feel will enrich their university experience, and develop their skills for after graduation.

Regarding his own role, Handley added: “If students want to do something, it is certainly not my place to be telling them “no” but more trying to make it happen.”

Membership is just £3, all ages and levels of proficiency are welcomed. To find out more go to http://www.facebook.com/groups/FrenchSocLancs/.

A meeting will also be held at 1 o’clock on Wednesday of Week Nine in Grizedale Bar.
