Annual post-Christmas sales are enough to get us slightly hot around the (fur) collar. As we brave the queuing and bustling for the best bargains the high street can offer, we investigate how to dive into the latest fashion sale sensations, and how to navigate through to find the best buys of the season.
Spontaneity…
…a budget lover’s downfall? Buying one time outfits or spur of the moment pieces in the sales is easy to do, with slashed prices looking ever so tempting. To avoid irrational spending look for pieces you’ve had your eye on for a while. Sales are the perfect opportunity to bulk out your wardrobe with favourite staples, and classic cut items that will ensure long-lasting wardrobe potential. Remember to buy for your shape and size of the time, despite any anticipated New Year’s resolutions!
Temptation…
…can be distracting. Attraction to frivolous sale buys is natural, and if you have cash to splash or if Santa’s gifts didn’t quite suffice this year, these sales are a chance to make up the glitz in your wardrobe. The autumn/winter collections have been packed full of sparkles, fur trims and rich colours so it should be relatively easy to find something special, at an extra special price.
Short and sweet…
…the sales won’t last forever. The best selection of clothes and accessories will undoubtedly feature at the start of the sales, however extra lines are often added later. If there’s something you’ve had your eye on for a while, the earlier you get to the sales the better. However the longer you leave them the higher chance of further reductions to ensure you get the best value for money. This does mean there is risk of missing out on wider selections in most stores, but this is a great time to browse; the queues will have died down and you will be subject to the best offers available.
Go live…
…by streaming your shopping. There is potentially no better time to shop online than during the sales period. Forget disorganised stores, hoards of people and endless searching for a size that definitely sold out ten minutes earlier. Sitting in the comfort of your own home, sifting through online sales may well be the answer. Plenty of decision time, no one fighting you for the last item on those virtual shelves, and clear indication of available sizes stocked will allow you to shop with much more ease. There will also be items that might not be in the stores closest to you, giving more variety, and easy to navigate categories to make it simple to find what you’re looking for.
Decisions, decisions…
…decide to get ahead. Thinking about how your sale purchases will fare against future styles is a good way to start out your shopping, pre-empted fashion buys that will do wonders later on in the spring/summer season. Contemplate frequent spring trends: predictions for upcoming shows include sheer shirts, light jackets, neutrals and prints. It may be difficult to find typical floral prints in winter sales, but any prints you may find will keep you on continually on trend and prepare you for 2012 fashions.
Happy sale shopping!
