Lancaster went off to a great start in the mixed doubles against York, with Stewart and Heron taking their first games 21-10 and 21-8 against York’s third pairing of Langford and Martyres. Minchev and Zheng continued this winning their games 21-18 and 22-20 in two close encounters against Sinclair and Southwell.
Unfortunately Richards’ original partner, the badminton president Nathan Stewart had to pull out due to injury right before Roses, so stepping into his place was Edward Yang. Richards and Yang lost their first game to York’s Cannon and Hoult 21-14 and 21-16, taking the overall score to 2-1 after the first set of matches.
Stewart and Heron took another win 21-10 and 21-4, followed by more positive games by Minchev and Zheng, winning 21-9 and 21-9 against Langford and Martyres. Richards and Yang took on York’s first pairing Sinclair and Southwell, winning the first game 21-18, but unfortunately losing the second 21-19 and also the deciding game 21-12. The overall score was 4-2 going into the last round of matches, and Langford and Martyres took two wins 21-15 and 21-19 making it extremely tense with two matches to go. However Stewart and Heron won their last games 21-14 and 21-13, and Minchev and Zheng also won 21-7 and 21-14 against York’s Cannon and Hoult, making the final score 6-3 to Lancaster.
