‘In This Light And On This Evening’ is the latest album from Birmingham indie band, Editors, who have established themselves as one of the biggest bands in the country. The album reached Number One in its debut in the UK Charts, a second top album spot for the band. It has also reached Top Ten positions across Europe, in Germany, Holland and Belgium where it the band has broken records, becoming the first non domestic act to debut a single at Number One with the fantastic ‘Papillon’. Lead singer of the band, Tom Smith, commented that whilst the band had a great deal of fun making the album, it still has the band’s signature dark tone:
“This is still a dark record, a record that sings of no God, a record of broken love songs, a record where the filthy city is so close you can smell it, taste it, a record of drunken violence, a record which has lost all trust in those in charge of our world”.
Editors will be beginning their UK tour on Saturday 6th March in Lincoln. They will be performing at Preston Guildhall on Sunday 7th March before continuing on to another seventeen shows across the country. The tour seems very promising following the success of the latest album and the band will be well worth a watch, but unfortunately the majority of dates (including Preston) are now sold out. If you aren’t lucky enough to be able to make it to see the band check out the next issue of SCAN for a review of the Preston show. Ticket information can be found at www.editorsofficial.co.uk.
