Lancaster 7 – 2 York
On a sunny Saturday morning on the tennis courts, Lancaster and York faced off in 6 singles and 3 doubles matches for 4 valuable Roses points. Playing in the BUCS Northern 1A compared to York in Northern 3B, Lancaster were the obvious favourites and quickly made their superiority apparent. The first two singles matches and the opening doubles flashed by without loss of a set and multiple bagels were recorded. Lancaster ended the first session with a 3-1 lead, needing only 2 victories from 5 in the afternoon to claim the 4 points. This target was quickly achieved, and surpassed, as Lancaster raced to an unassailable 7-1 lead with one singles match left to play. Admittedly the Lancaster player may have taken her foot off the gas but a plucky performance from York enabled the team to end the day on a winning note, 6-2 6-1. Whilst the whole Lancaster squad performed well, Chiara and Tash were outstanding, winning their respective singles matches with ease before teaming up to win the doubles. A brief wobble at the start of the second set gave York hope but some incredible net play enabled Lancaster to fight back from 2-0 and seal an emphatic victory, 6-0 6-3. The final score on the tennis courts was a repeat of last year: Lancaster 7 York 2.
