Lancaster University Football B’s: 0-0, but worth the watch

It was a cold, windy day on the 22 Acres Football pitch at 11AM on Saturday, but the hoards of Lancaster supporters had come out in force to watch the Lancaster University Football B Team compete. The team, headed by captain Henry Bovey, were in great shape as they took to the pitch against the University of York B’s, and the crowds were anticipating an eventful match.

Alas, in the traditional sense, the match was not as eventful as desired. Neither team scored, despite a few close misses and lots of opportunities on both sides. Sam Gray took all the corners for the Lancaster side, and both him and his team were clearly confident in his ability to keep the ball far away from the goal. After a tense first half, the players returned with a fresh sense of enthusiasm, prepared to take the fight to the end. However, after a series of tackles – and a controversial yellow card – tensions were heightened. The mood took a turn for the more dramatic as full time approached, and the players were getting more irate, which may have impacted their ability to keep clear heads. Despite the 0-0 score at full time, both teams played extremely well, and it was a tight, tight match. A Roses match to be proud of.
