Elections return for cross-campus positions

Loading

The spirit of democracy will be pervading campus once again – most notably in the guise of that notorious purple ruminant. With cross-campus officer (CCO) positions as well as numerous JCR roles up for election in Week Six, expect to see pamphlets and posters up and down the spine as hopeful candidates vie for your votes.

Those hoping to run for a position made their intentions known to the Students’ Union by nominating themselves throughout Week Five, before going head-to-head in the hustings held in Barker House Farm the following Sunday afternoon.

SCAN was there to deliver a live-blog, accompanied by audio- and visual-streaming from Bailrigg FM and LA1:TV.

The ten CCO positions elected into roles with associated portfolios are as follows: Charity, Welfare, Democracy, Media & Communications, Education, Socials, International, LGBTQ*, Environment & Ethics, and Activities. In addition to these, five LUSU Council positions without portfolios will be elected. These additional councillors are responsible for holding the members of the Council with portfolios to account, and ensuring that the students’ voices are fairly represented by those tasked with doing so. Three Student trustee positions, four Faculty Reps, and numerous JCR roles are also being elected when student go to the online polls throughout Week Six.

Campaigning will run from Friday Week Five until Friday Week Six, with voting open from 10am Wednesday Week Six until 5pm Friday Week Six.

At the time of SCAN going to print, the deadline for nominations had not passed, which meant that SCAN could not fairly represent all those running for positions. As such, no candidate names are provided here, but further information about the candidates and their performances at Sunday’s hustings can be found online at the SCAN website.
