Severe car accident outside University

An accident between two vehicles has closed the A6 heading towards Preston. The cause of the accident is currently unknown. A man in his 60s has been airlifted to Royal Preston Hospital with serious leg injuries – the extent of the injuries suffered by the two members of the other vehicle involved is also unknown.

Eyewitnesses have reported helicopters landing near Cartmel and on the sports pitches towards the entrance to the University.

The University has sent an email to all staff which reads “Following the traffic incident located on the A6 south of Green Lane, it is advisable for staff heading north by car into Lancaster to leave campus using the Bigforth Drive exit. Staff travelling south are advised to use the exit at Alexandra Park. Please be aware that the incident could also affect bus services.”
