With teams being formed from the best of the best in the college leagues, high level netball was expected and both York and Lancaster most definitely delivered.

Fiery from the outset, the York Centre was quick to make a noticeable impression on the pitch as one of the strongest members of their team. York had the edge throughout the first quarter but it ended equal at 9-9. The end to end netball throughout the first quarter continued into the second quarter, with evenly matched teams both attacking and defending with pride and drive.

Feisty netball brought York in front at half-time with a score of 21-16; Lancs continued to push and showed no signs of letting York easily break through. At half-time it appeared to be anyone’s game.

The third quarter cemented this with both team’s defences doing them proud and bitterly fending off the opposition. The desire to win really came through in both teams throughout the third quarter, with it ending with just one point in it at 31-30 to York going into the final quarter.

However, York came into the final quarter with an onslaught of goals, dominating the pitch and elevating the pressure on Lancaster to pull back a victory. An injury to Lancaster’s Hesk added to the drama of the final quarter, allowing Mansergh and Davies to come on as last minute substitutes, giving everything they had to add to the Lancaster fight. The final score was 46-37, with Lancaster unable to fend off the growing pressure of York’s epic shooting during the final quarter.

Final Score: York 46 – Lancaster 37
