Lancaster secured a further six points towards victory in the table tennis, with the mixed 2nds winning comfortably 14-3, while the mixed 2nds won 10-7 in a closely contested battle of table tennis.

The mixed 2nds was an interesting encounter as York had out a team that was clearly nowhere near as good as Lancaster’s. The hosts cruised into a huge lead with their first loss coming in the eighth of 17 matches, seeing Lancaster go 7-1 up. Lancaster knew that they only had to reach nine wins to secure the two points for Lancaster.

The 2nd team Captain Robert Browne won the all important nineth game for Lancaster defeating his opponent in straight sets. This made the score line 9-1 to Lancaster. Ultimately the seconds won 14-3 with Browne winning all of his games on the night. Although Lancaster would have been pleased with the win they would have been disappointed by the standard of some of their opposition, as some of the games were not even close.

Stephen Arliss captained the mixed 1sts to glory 10-7 in a closely fought match that was nip and tuck right until the very end. Lancaster were 6-3 up and looking in control of the match when Arliss came up against York’s best player and was edged out 3-1 in what was an exhibition of some outstanding table tennis.

York followed this up by winning the next match to create a very tense atmosphere, as they brought the score back to 6-5. Lancaster then reasserted their advantage taking the lead 8-5. York were only able to pull one game back before Lancaster secured the vital ninth win that secured 4 more points for Lancaster.

The match ultimately ended up 10-7. Lancaster firsts set out to avenge the fact that York finished one place above them in the league, so will be extremely happy with their 10-7 win.
