Students speak out as new Cable Street management’s service falls short

The company responsible for student accommodation on Cable Street, Lancaster Property Network, has announced it is no longer in charge of the residences just one month before students return to Lancaster.

Lancaster Property Network’s (LPN) role in administrating the residences has been terminated and TigerLime Ltd is now responsible. The changeover was announced in an email sent to tenants on Friday, August 27 on behalf of N.E. Reed, joint administrator of Cable Street Investments Ltd, the company which owns the properties.

The email stated that “with immediate effect, LPN is no longer the managing agent of this property.” Tenants are advised “Consequently, no further payments should be sent to LPN in relation to your occupation. You should ensure all standing orders, credit cards and cash payments to LPN are stopped with immediate effect.”

Any students renting Cable Street accommodation for the academic year 2010/11 will receive a further letter on behalf of N.E. Reed “outlining any actions you need to undertake”.

Despite rumours that LPN were experiencing financial problems causing them to relinquish their contract with Cable Street Investments Ltd, it should be made clear that LPN remains a solvent company and is not in administration.

The email contained details of two people to contact should the tenants have further questions. The representative for Cable Street Investments Ltd, Rachel Charlesworth, was away from office on Friday, August 27 and is due to return on Wednesday, September 3, leaving students without contact with the owners of their accommodation.

It was suggested that an alternative contact would be TigerLime Ltd, although it appears a subsidiary company of TigerLime Ltd is actually in control. It was indicated upon calling TigerLime Ltd that the press release team would be the best people to talk to, and that they would be available from Tuesday, September 3. This leaves any students with questions unable to contact anybody for a long weekend.

Furthermore, the Cable Street accommodation website still lists details for LPN as the correct contact information in its About section. Elsewhere on the site, it was indicated that LPN remained the tenancy administrators, stating all tenants would sign “a legally binding contract between LPN and all the students in a flat”.

Anyone concerned about the changeover should contact Rebecca Charlesworth on 01132 894612 or Tigerlime Ltd on 08450 948401.
