Lancaster University’s Barnardo’s Society is holding a Valentine’s biscuit sale on Friday 11 February on the Spine next to Fylde College.

Barnardo’s Society President Kimberley Warrillow said, “The Barnardo’s Society is having a biscuit sale this Friday providing tasty treats for that someone special in your life. Come and see us from 11am until 3pm and either customize your own biscuit with a special message or, if you’re in a rush, pick up a pre-made pack.”

The Barnardo’s Society was set up at the start of the year with an aim of raising student awareness of the work of the charity, as well as fund raising through events on campus.

The biscuit sale is the latest initiative run by the society in order to raise money for Barnardo’s on campus. At Winterfest a Barnardo’s stall offered children’s party games such as Pin the Nose on Rudolph and Name the Teddy. Alongside this, a raffle was organised at Fylde’s Christmas ball and there have been collection drives to encourage students to donate unwanted clothes, books and food. In total, last term’s activities raised over four hundred pounds.

“The society was set up at Lancaster University giving the students of Lancaster the opportunity to raise awareness of Barnardo’s and raise some money for this worthwhile cause,” Warrillow continued. “I want to organise even more fund raising events that, with your help, I am sure can be a success.”

Barnardo’s operates 415 programs across the UK, aimed at helping abused, vulnerable and neglected children. It emphasises the importance of giving children an equal start in life, regardless of the circumstances they are born into.

All proceeds from the Valentine’s biscuit sale will go to the Barnardo’s charity.
