Lancaster were triumphant in the Open Frisbee event, winning a close and exciting encounter 15-11 on the opening day.

Lancaster looked in confident mood ahead of the game and were buoyed by a large crowd that grew larger and larger as the game progressed.  With four points up for grabs, Lancaster’s faithful following clearly saw this event as a good opportunity to extend the home side’s early Roses lead.

York began the game the brighter side, taking an early 3-1 advantage.   It seemed that Lancaster were struggling to find their feet in a game that could have quickly run away from them if it wasn’t for a few mistakes from the visitors that allowed Lancaster to keep their opponents within sight.

Lancaster were slack and sloppy in their passing and it seemed they needed a few points in order to calm them down.  They eventually began to assert themselves and their undoubted quality in the final third began to show as they turned around a two goal deficit at 4-2.  They steadily increased their lead and by half time found themselves 8-4 to the good.

After a stern word from their captain, York came out for the second half believing that this game was not beyond them and a brief spell of possession saw them cut the deficit, and at 11-9 it was impossible to say which way the tide would turn.

A rallying cry from Lancaster captain Charles Cranston jerked his team from their momentary lapse and jolted them into action.  Jon Carter was the man converting chances when Lancaster needed it most and with the scoreline poised at 14-11, the home team needed just one more point to win the game.  Step forward that man of moment Carter who destroyed any hopes York had of rescuing the game.
