Whilst they may remind some of us our younger years when our parents tried to think of ‘creative’ ways to get us try to adventurous foods (and you have to wonder, is a pineapple really that adventurous!?), smoothies can be extremely tasty,  are the perfect treat for a summery day, and are reaping in health benefits. And they needn’t be expensive; just pop down to the fruit and veg stalls at the market and you’ll see the bargains for yourself. They can even be made in bulk batches and frozen, so you’ll have one for every occasion.  The list of positives is endless, and so here’s just a handful of recipes to get you in the mood for something smooth

 

A Chocolate Smoothie Sensation

If you’ve got a bit of a sweet tooth, give one of these delicious drinks a try. It’s sure to satisfy those sugary cravings, and give you an energy boost that will help you power your way through your revision.

2 tablespoons hot chocolate powder

1 large banana

300ml skimmed milk

Peel and chop up the banana.

Then, chuck everything into a blender and simply blitz! Pour into a large glass, plonk in a straw and prepare for a heavenly experience!

Tropical Fruit Smoothie

Not only is tropical fruit  bursting with vitamins A and C,  which  help  keep our skin and our  immune systems on top form,  these fruits also contain important minerals like potassium and phosphorous- which all work to keep the body fighting fit. So stock up on this summery smoothie and you’ll be able to tackle those exams head on.

Serves two

1/2 medium pineapple, cut into chunks

200ml orange juice

1 mango

1 banana

1.Firstly, cut up the pineapple into chunks, cut the banana into slices, and peel and slice the mango.

2.Place all the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth. Add a little water to reach the desired consistency. Now your smoothie is ready to serve.

 

A Very Berry Smoothie

Berries are packed full of vitamins, minerals and  antioxidants- and health benefits aside, with so many  varieties of this fruit, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Strawberries and raspberries are known for their sweet taste and soft texture, whilst blueberries  have more of a zing (ok, not a very technical term, but we’re talking about berries here!). Either way, this smoothie is  sure to tingle your tastebuds and give your immune system a helping hand at the same time.

1 banana

140g blackberries, blueberries, raspberries or strawberries

apple juice (optional)

2 tsp  honey

1. Slice the banana into your blender or food processor and add the berries of your choice.

2. Whizz until smooth. Pour in the apple juice and blend to make the smoothie to the  consistency you like.

3. Pour into a glass to serve, and drizzle with honey to add a sweet kick to this berry- bonanza.
