Tear It Up

Despite the notorious Lancaster rain, we can’t get enough of ripped jeans this season. Not a newcomer in the fashion world, this style has fallen in and out of fashion since the 1980s, but it seems that lately, they’re more popular than ever. Celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Rita Ora have taken an interest in this DIY trend recently, holes are pretty much everywhere. Team them with a pair of converse during the day then switch to a pair of black heels with a blazer in the evening for a hint of Parisian sophistication. Rips tend to look vest at the knee, calf or anywhere where the denim would naturally rip. Extremists can always go to town with full-on cutouts, but even full-on cutouts look odd by the ankle. Understated and slouchy, Jessica Alba is usually bang on with her denims. Size is also very important. Whether it’s your waist, your hips or your legs, if all three are baggy you’re going to look quite swamped. Ankle length is always a safe and sophisticated medium.
