If not now, when? It’s autumn, and the Pumpkin Spice Latte has returned. Given how much stick girls seem to get for ordering one, I thought a beauty come-back was in order. Ward off the haters, and shamelessly PSL yourself.
A good coffee begins with a good base of raw materials, much like our PSL face. I prepped mine by cleansing and moisturising, before applying a good concealer and foundation with my fingers, and blending with a damp beautyblender. You don’t need your face to be the cake to your coffee today (there’s actual cake for that). Rimmel’s Wake Me Up face range is a good one for winter mornings, along with their Stay Matte powder for setting your face. To start creating the coffee glow, take a large bronzing brush and sweep a matte, brown bronzer along the cheekbones (I used one from the Natural Collection).
For our PSL eye, I created an eye shadow look that was a mixture of cream, brown, and an accent of bright orange – just like the latte! To begin, I lined my inner bottom eyelid with a white eyeliner by Barry M. Then, I swept a matte cream wash across the first two thirds of my eyelid, before blending it into a matte mid brown shade, using a small brush to blend across the lid and then slightly up into the crease. For our orange accent, I took a small eye shadow brush and smudged matte orange underneath my lower lash line, and then pushed a light line into my eyelid crease. I built up both lines with more product gradually, intensifying the colour while softening the edges of the eye look. I finished the high colour look with a small flick of black liner and two coats of mascara for definition.
I appreciate that coral is for spring, flamingo is for summer, and come autumn, bright pumpkin orange isn’t exactly subtle. However, after wading through many an orange crayon in Boots, I found Revlon’s Super Lustrous Lipstick in ‘Cinnamon Bronze’. This looks as good as it sounds, a warm yet muted and toned-down pumpkin spice colour!
